Back in 2003 when Tony Fenton was let go from 2fm by John Clarke, when discussing about where he might go next everyone agreed he was far too old at 40 to be considered for spin 1038 or one of the new upcoming regional youth stations. Nowadays thought youth stations are full of 40 year old djs, (eg:Tracy Clifford, Steve k, Adian Power) it's interesting how times have changed.

Irish youth stations are not full of 40 year olds...just the odd presenter is.
most presenters are in their mid 20s to mid 30s

By the way, Larry Gogan was 45 when he kicked off Radio 2.

He would have been 42 in 2003, but I know what you mean.

Is it something to do with an older voice having gravitas and nice 'radio' tone?

Some of the younger ones can be a bit all over the show and high pitched.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
