    Hi all

Totally green when it comes to self submission of tax returns. Will have to do it this year for the first time having always been a PAYE worker.
Trying to get my head around the tax year/ payment period.

I believe I have to submit my returns in October but what period of time does this submission cover?
Is it from November 2020 - October 2021 or how does it work?
I'll probably end up getting an accountant to look at it for the first year anyway.

I'd recommend you look at www.revenue.ie home page, second section on the left, 'Self Employment and Self Assessment'.

The tax year is the same as the calendar year for individuals. You will find details regarding filing and payment dates in the above.

You need to make a tax return for the calendar year 2020 by 31st October 2021. You must pay your 2020 income tax by that date. You must also pay your preliminary income tax for 2021 by that date also.

By concession there is usually a 14 day extension if you file and pay electronically.
