Is this a fair price for an Mx-5?

    It's a 2001 Mx-5, original Irish car, says 57k miles.
1.6 engine, not the more sought after 1.8 with the LSD.
It silver and it comes with a matching hardtop.
Overall looks to be in good nic, no major dings/marks or scratches, no rust.

2 owners, but there's no service book.
    Just passed the NCT.

    €4250

I know they're going up in value but is that a fair price?

I don't think you can see the rust without it being up on a lift. Our 1998 1.6 is coming to the end with rust, a jap import.

€4250 must be near top dollar for an average 2001.

Great car, many smiles per mile.

Really I was always under the impression that a feel around underneath would tel you what you need to know.
I'm guessing the chassis rails are the hardest to get to.
It's the best condition NB I've seen crop up in awhile, there's a few around the €3000 mark that are worse for wear and without a hardtop.
I'd say he knows what they're worth, I just don't know if it's worth it!

Tip. They aren't making more of them. They are collectable in a sense they have a large following and everything heads towards classic years as each year passes.

    Good point.

This is an 01, with a matching hardtop and what looks like genuine miles.
    There's also a 99 without a hardtop and almost 100k miles more for 3k.
Both look like good cars, even at an extra €1k, the 01 seems like the better buy.

1.8 and lsd is a must on the mk2 for me having owned one for many years, great fun to drive.

You can be guaranteed this car has rust, unless it has lived in a heated garage all its life between miles. Even if you cant see any its there and unless its had an overhaul underneath and had arches and sills done it will need a good chunk of change invested. Its the reason i sold mine, didnt have time or interest in making it 100%.

The mk2 in particular was desperate for rust on the sills, you'll need to do a proper root around under a lift and if you see even a smidgen of rust, allow for that being 10% of the problem.

With mx5 that vintage I would recommend sticking to 1.8. That little extra grunt makes it a bit more fun. I owned mk2 99" 10th anniversary edition one and drove friends 1.6.

Just to note. All mx5 uk/Irish ones will be without LSD. Pretty much the only ones that came with LSD were 10th anniversary edition. The imports Eunos mostly had as standard LSD. ( or had a higher chance of having one, depending on spec ).
