    I have a problem I live in Cavan but i have been left a house in cork city. The house I live in is a social/council house in Cavan. I dont make a lot of money an i dont wanna live in cork. I am selling it.The estate agent values it at 300k.
    if the council find out i have inhertited a house in cork. will they kick me out of the council house and make me move to the house in cork?

    its stressing me out. anyone help?

    AFAIK, all council tenancies are lifetime tenancies, aren't they?

    There is a TD who is a social housing tenant.

    If I am correct, then you can never be asked to leave, even if your income triples or quadruples.

    Now, as you know, the rent on LA houses is linked to incomes.

    So if your income rises, then the rent rises.

    No they won't kick you out ,you could even buy your own place if you wanted with the sale of the other house

    Are the proceeds of the sale of an asset defined as income?

    No.

    If they were, then income tax would apply.

    Income = wages + rent + interest + profits

    The proceeds of the sale of an asset is not income.

    When anybody in Ireland sells a house, the proceeds of the sale of the asset are not subject to income tax.

    However, the value of any assets may be included in means-tests for social assistance welfare payments.
