    Hello lads,

I’m having issues with grey crows and foxes lambing .. have shotgun but the grey crows seem to smell the metal and impossible to get within range !

What rifle /scope combo would ye recommend or where in west of ireland or website should I be looking

    Thanks

17HMR will knock them over. Put a good 6-24x50mm on top and that would make for a great set up. CZ have a new range of 457 rifles out now, and can be got for about the €500 price.
A good scope would be the Nikko Sterling Diamond LR, not to expensive and good glass.

I don't have a 17 HMR rifle, Have the .223 for foxing. And 3 .22lr rifles for other sports.
But from all reading I do the 17 HMR is what you need for the grey crows.
Sure a .223 would do you as well.. A great calibre for the foxes.

Had the .22 handy last night when I spotted this vixen from the front door trying to figure a way in to the chickens and turkey. She ran first but stopped and turned for a hand squeak and a single CCI standard velocity 40 grain did the trick.

That's the 3rd vixen in the last 3 months I've got with the .22 within 80 yards of the front door and before that had no fox trouble here for 4 years, they're everywhere this year.

A friend of mine outside Tullamore says they’d bait you out of it down there.

I thought the 18lb vixen I got a few months ago was big but here's one of the biggest ones I've seen in a while, shot not too far from where I am by a local hunter from slightly over 290 meters with a 70 grain Sako.

Some fox, but what a shot to remember.

Post got moved into this thread so I should add it was a Hawke scope.
