Trade in "written off" car?

I was in a crash a few years ago. 06 high spec Avensis. V straight forward, other driver was liable (drunk). Cosmetic damage to the car body but repair quotes were expensive so the other driver's insurance paid the value of the car which they put as e1100. My understanding is the car was "written off". Was told I was perfectly allowed to continue driving it etc so I have been.

Is there any issue with me using this car as a trade in if i'm buying a newer car or does it even need to be mentioned? Maybe theres zero value in it other than to me driving it?
I still drive it, goes perfectly and it flies through nct etc just need a hatchback now.

That car has zero value for the dealer. The trade in value you'll get will equal cash discount you can negotiate.

You'll get a few quid if you sell privately after you get your newer car.

Afaik only category A and B insurance write offs are recorded in Ireland so I don’t think your car would have been recorded as written off

If your not interested in selling privately then I’d probably just trade it in and say nothing, its up to them to inspect any cars they take as trade ins. Maybe do a history check on your car first and see if its been recorded

If they paid you the value of the car, the insurer wpuld habe taken ownership - they likely paid the value of the car less its salvage value thus allowing you to keep it.
By what you say, you must not have repaired the car at all so a rough 06 avensis as a trade in is worthless.
Go for a straight sale then stick the avensis up on donedeal with a new test if possible. Anything you get for it will be a bonus.

It’s a 14 year old car, like says above trade in value is zero, they just tell you they’re allowing you €xxx for it but in real terms they’re allowing you nothing on it and you are paying exactly what you would have been paying if you haggled as a straight cash buyer.

If the car is good enough and drives well and NCT’d sell it straight and go and buy your new car straight and look for a discount.
