    I have a 2006 BMW 3 series 2L petrol from new with 160,000 miles.

It passed away he NCT it is now our back up car and we still love it, cheap to maintain past few years and driving well.

It passed the NCT two days ago. Can anyone estimate when the NCT may start to fail an old car? Just curious:)

If well kept as it would appear, there is many years left in that - it will lilely only need minor suspension bits the odd time.
Ive an 08 Audi A5 from new and i imagine it would pass nct for the next 10 years easily without too much work. It depends on the car and how it is kept day to day.
Some owners hear a tiny knock and get it traced and fixed. Others keep driving as long as the car starts and goes - guess which one will last the longest

    ^^ This.
Regular Maintenance will keep most cars running for a long time.
Lying idle doesn't do them much good as age affects everything and things that are used regularly and carefully will tend to last better because they don't seize up, belts sitting in one position for long periods are also prone to going bad.

It just goes to show when a car is maintained correctly it can last!
The E90 N46 has generally a terrible reputation!
You must really mind her Fair play!
