Foam in the cuts after trimming bamboo plants

    Hi all,

I got some unwanted bamboos last summer, which had been indoors in an office for a few years.

Strangely, the bamboo plants suffered big time when the cold weather came. They lost all the leaves and the stems got very soft and mushy. So, I trimmed them above a node of what looked like a healthy culm

I have now realised that there is some strange foam at the top of the stems where I made the cuts.
Any idea of what that foam could be?

    Thanks
