Hi guys, I used to be an avid bordsie but life and work has put me out of touch.

My nephew 13 wants to build his first pc and although I've been doing it for years I'm out of touch by at least 10years.

Is there anyone willing to help me spec and point me one the right direction for components?

He has as budget of around 700 euro and I can donate dinner parts of they are any help such as tower and cpu if it's good enough.

He wants to play rocket league and do "school work" yeah right....

I used to buy from memoryC hardwareversand and komplett. Any off them any good anymore.

    All help appreciated.

Seems like nobody else wants to break the bad news.

Because of a number of factors, building a gaming pc is next to impossible right now for that budget. Graphics cards are in a major shortage globally, meaning prices are massively inflated.

Especially if this budget includes peripherals, screen, keyboard, mouse etc.

Almost impossible to get good graphics cards.
if you want to build a cheap pc
    you could use this
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan-home-office-bundle-asus-a320m-k-prime-amd-ryzen-5-2600-8gb-ddr4
    or
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan-home-office-bundle-asus-a320m-k-prime-amd-ryzen-3-1200-8gb-ddr4

    CPU built-in video and ram.

https://secure.scan.co.uk/web/basket suggest list £590.16 UK price.

Not the fastest pc out there but is close to your budget if you want to build now at that budget.
if you are building make sure you get an anti-static wrist strap and use it to avoid static damage.

Even struck with paying double VAT that scan price for a R5 3400G is good but I'm not sure they will ship to the Republic at all? I nearly got sick the other night when I pondered suggesting one of them (it's good enough for 1080p60 Rocket League) and saw the cpu alone was going for €400+ anywhere listed on the uk or German pcpartpicker!

I also feel a little queasy each time I point at the Dell possibilities but €757 for this is close to budget and not going to be as limiting if they want to play anything more demanding than the likes of Rocket League (the downside is it's a budget Dell prebuilt so upgrades beyond ram/ssd/disks are likely going to be painful to impossible): https://www.dell.com/en-ie/shop/desktops-and-all-in-ones/new-inspiron-small-desktop/spd/inspiron-3881-desktop/cd388101

for scan shipping to Ireland use the amazon ship button
    PwA.png

It will ship to the address in Ireland that you have set up for amazon.co.uk.
Dell use cases that are hard to upgrade later and proprietary motherboards.

The Dell quite probably also comes with a strange power supply, perhaps even a 12V only one, I did mention upgrades past ram/disks are painful to impossible.

I really don't feel like linking up my Amazon account to Scan to check the process further, never mind actually ordering something to see what happens (does it ship, does it end up getting double charged VAT). Do you have first hand experience of this? What happens? They still aren't shipping anywhere outside the UK normally. Obviously your username suggests you aren't in the RoI ;) It would be interesting news to a lot of people here as it could open back up the door to being able to buy nvidia FE cards down here.

Does this actually work for scan? I mentioned it to them on online chat and the guy said he never heard of it being done to get stuff here.

Saying Dell cannot be upgraded is kinda scaremongering, what really should be said is "more limited compared to a self build".

You can upgrade the processor, RAM or graphics card, the latter may be limited to another card that has a six-pin connector, but you can still upgrade considerably in future.

The Dell would be perfect and you can actually buy it. The only thing that would even need upgrading over the next two odd years would be bumping up the ram to 16GB, which is a 2 second job of inserting a second stick.

Dell's stuff like G series are really iffy. When you buy dell you have to realise that you buying a cpu/mobo/psu combo permanent. Ram, storage, gpu is still flexible. You pretty much have pc for its cpu lifespan. My very first proper pc here in Ireland was Dell Xps q6600 with 8800gt. During the years I upgraded gpu and storage. When I built my 2500k machine, I gave away Dell to friend who still used it for a while.

In my personal opinion, right now, Allienware is better option then G5. You can get 5800x 32gm ram and good gpu. You can spec 1000w psu that will make gpu upgrades very easy. It will last long time. By the time it's outdated, you will be buying pretty much new system again. Realistically, the only parts from self built pc that you can reuse is Case. Everything else is part of upgrade. I am pretty sure people are smart enough here to change their power supplies on new builds as using 5 years old psu is almost asking for trouble.

Now all that I said applies to people, like me, I build once and upgrade storage and gpu when needed. Base system will be used for many years. I like playing games, not building pcs. So buying something like Allienware suits me perfect. Then again, we have stuff like pcspecialist, but I would not call then "Traditional" Prebuilds.
For people who like to upgrading their pcs and being a hobby - Dell pcs just not a right product. Part of fiddling around and upgrading is part of the joy for such individuals.

It doesn't help for this Scan idea. Amazon pay is just a payment method and doesn't relate to orders through Amazon itself, never mind the fact your link points out that third party sellers on Amazon are all over the place.

It is also possible to order the same parts from Amazon.co.uk directly or look on Amazon.de.

Wouldn't call it "iffy" just "compromised".

CPU cooler in it sucks - the site shows a tower but for lower-end 65W CPUs they use a crappy top-down.
PSU is 500W Platinum but ATX12VO with no extra headers - would need a a fan splitter if you wanted to try & fit another fan up front (not even sure if that's possible, too).
CPU VRM is likely meh, should be fine though.

That's a delivery failure though, he specified dual-channel.
