I was looking at a 2017/18 Seat Alteca online, was thinking of having a look at it, but I have no experience of the Seat Brand. They seem to be quite cheap in price compared other SUVs, such as the Tigaun or Kuga. Just wondering is there a reason for this eg quality etc. Anyone got any observations or advice on these cars.

It’s a VW Group product, built on the same platform as most Seat/Skoda/VW products.
    Nothing to fear.

I test drove an 2019 Ateca on Saturday. Very deceptive car. very roomy inside(I'm 6 4) so need space. It had good sized windows all round making it bright. The dash was a little further away from you than in a Kadjar, giving the feeling of loads of space. It was also quite upright. The windscreen felt really straight up in comparison to the Quashqie or Kadjar.

I thought it was really straight forward driving wise, nice and firm and solid. The touchscreen was really good (my renault kadjar is a b****x, way too many menus to scroll through when driving.

    It was quite basic inside.

As a real alternative I also drove a top of the range 2019 Quashqie. Was an amazing contrast, the quashqie felt way smaller inside, much more closed in.

It was a huge contrast, one car that felt like it really undersold itself and one that was the opposite.

I have one for last two years and I adore it. I looked at Tuscan, Quashasi and Peugeot when buying as bought it new.

It's so roomy in size, the boot is huge and I love the square shape which gives you much more room to say a Quashasi.

The touchscreen in my opinion is way superior to say Tuscan.

It's basically a VW without the badge!

I have the high spec model and it's definitely not basic inside.

I have leather seats, leather steering wheel, interior lighting which changes colour, heated seats etc. I have a long commute in normal times and it's a very comfortable drive and solid on road.

A brilliant little feature is that if I have my hands full of shopping going back to car it will unlock once I have key in my bag so I don't gave to go routing for it.

I also have wireless charge for my phone so handy and once you use USB I can gave Google maps opened up on touchscreen which is brilliant.

Spirit Seat have a 2018 brochure on their site in a PDF

If you google “Seat ateca brochure Ireland 2018” it’ll come up

    Mine is the Xcellence model.

My son calls it batman car because on dark winter evenings when you get out of car a Seat Ateca logo/ icon lights up on ground beside passage mirror so you can see where you going!

I think they are the best looking SUV in that segment over Audi, Skoda and VW. Vectra here has one along with Gustavofring.

We had one in the 1 litre.
    Wife had it.

    Lovely car.
Nice and solid in build and drive.
    Reasonable boot space.
I'm 6' 3 and always had plenty room.

Not as spacious as say a CRV or xtrail but similar to a kuga or tuscan.

Ideal thanks for that. They’re nice looking I must say. I mentioned on another thread here that my sister was looking between the Kia Stonic or Hyundai Kona. This is bigger but I think it would be a better option for her

Herself got a 150 tsi xcellence lately. It came down to the Ateca, CRV or Tiguan in the end but what swung it over the others was it was the least ponderous to drive, the spec was better (leather, electric tow bar are really handy) and the availability of a decent petrol engine as annual mileage has dropped off significantly.

It can be a little crashy on bigger bumps but otherwise it’s a perfectly pleasant bus. She finds it handier than an estate for accessing the baby seats.
