    Hi,

Ive about half an acre of lawn that was set last year, it ended up with a lot of weeds and even with plenty cutting the weeds stayed plentiful.

Is there anything I can spread on the lawn at some stage in the spring to help kill the weeds and help with the grass?

Is €150 worth of this worth it ?

Cutting too much can weaken the grass and make it easier for the weeds to take hold.
Weedkiller can damage a lawn so it is better to avoid it unless other methods don't work, and you really want to.
Other methods: feed, manually weed, aerate, scarify.
Personally I use a big adze hoe to remove certain weeds. I sharpen it with a metal file. It makes light work of anything you'd pull out of a lawn. Other weeds I leave alone because personally I don't care about them unless they can hurt you or get in your way. I have half an acre too.

Hmm I got the exact opposite advise off people on here. Keep it cut and the grass will over power the weeds.

Well regular cutting will kill some weeds like nettles but they're not the ones that you must be dealing with. The Royal Horticultural Society agrees with me anyway.

Ah I read cutting too much as cutting too often. I dont "close cut" it at all.

You need a weedkiller with 2,4-D in it, it basically kills anything broadleaved while not affecting your grass.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic_acid

4 Home I think they're called now (Formerly Co-Op Superstores) has a 5L container for €25 or so that will last you years.

I have a similar area but rather than spray weedkiller everywhere I use a hand sprayer and target the actual weeds. I go around doing this about once a month in growing season. Pick a dry day. It is very effective and uses a fraction of the volume of spray.

I still have lots of moss though...
