Thermostatic Cylinder Valve issue

Had one of these valves installed which replaced a 3/4" gate valve on flow to HWC

25 year old gravity fed system with no problems up until now. Valve is installed the correct way, arrow on valve in direction of flow to cylinder.

On the first night after installation we had a lot of vibration and a LOT of noise. The valve was set at 5 and I turned it down to 3...this seemed to stop the vibration.

Plumber called next day...he turned speed down on pump at boiler from 3 to 2 and set valve at no. 5.

No problems for 2 days until yesterday morning we turned heating off before leaving house and the vibration/noise started again...not nearly as bad as the first time but still very noticeable.

Can't get hold of plumber 🙄.

Advice greatly appreciated on possible cause and how to rectify.

    TIA

Is it one of these?, if so you might post make/model etc.

I know you said the flow direction is correct ie flow to cylinder but the 3/4" gate (balancing) valve is normally installed in the coil return so arrow will be pointing away from the cylinder in this case.

    Hi there,

Thanks for responding. It's a Myson Thermostatic cylinder valve. Looks like a TRV (white plastic head) Definitely installed correctly..had a look at instructions - on flow to coil arrow direction going with flow.

A little more info. Boiler located upstairs in a floor level cabinet. All rads are bled...auto air vent in attic likewise. There are no TRVs fitted on radiators, all lockshield type. One circuit (no zones). At least half the rads are always open/on upstairs and downstairs. There is a gate valve and non return valve feeding heating system in hot press

My brother in law suggested a bypass before this valve with a valve linking the flow and return slightly open. He said it "might" sort it. ? If some of the rads on circuit are open then I shouldn't need a bypass right?

Yes, that's correct, no need for a bypass IMO, I have seen a number of those Tapstats working away for years without trouble, its possible that the NRV is the cause of the problem, any idea as to why its fitted? and if the spring loaded type could possibly cause the problem although with the Tapstat fully open on 5 hard to imagine.
Only two other things I can think of right now is just ensure that the hot water is flowing from coil top to bottom and check for a little resistance when turning the setting knob on the Tapstat, unlikely but could be a faulty one, also ensure the sensing capsule is attached firmly to the cylinder.
