How would I run the tank dry ? The big tank and the little tank are full in the attic there’s water in the downstairs on both sinks and the toilet works

What do you have like an outside tap fed from mains just to make sure your outside feed is working due to burst pipes.

I hate to ask if your cold water tank is covered and any issues with mice?

Some houses have toilets fed via mains and other by gravity .

If your tank in Attic is full might there be a blockage at the pipe as mains water will be topping it up.

There is an outside tap opposite the kitchen sink that works

I do have mice in the walls because of a neighbour s rubbish and the tank is not completely covered what are you thinking there

The big tank and small tank are full
Don’t know if it’s a mains feed or gravity
Thanks for your reply I hope I answered your questions

If a mouse fell into tank it could block off the lower pipe by its body.

    Hi.
Grab a torch or any strong light and have a look into your attic tank ( The big one ) See if something is blocking one of the tank outlets . This one outlet might be split further along into three separate feeds to toilet , sink and bath .

The holding tanks in your attic are mains-fed and supply, via gravity, non-potable water to bathroom cold taps, toilets, and your immersion. (The outside tap and kitchen cold tap is also mains-fed.)

Many years ago, I had the same problem: it turned out to be an isolation valve (off of the holding tank) that had failed causing the internal copper "stop" to drop into the water flow irrespective of the external valve's position.

You don't mention a problem with your hot water which would suggest your immersion is still being fed? (Or you've two feeds off of the tank: one cold, one immersion.)

So I went up today this morning and put a long cleaning kinda brassily brush in to the big tank which was clean into the two pipes going out of the tank and then I went to the small tank and it was filthy dirty water in wonder would that be the problem ?
Still no cold water from the upstairs sink but warm water is still there and no flush on the toilet

Small one is possibly central heating and tomato soup colour?

I wonder if you could reverse pressure the cold feed by if you had a single mixer tap by opening the cold feed and the hot and put finger on the outlet?

Some taps also have a gauze to filter out the dirt.

We have to light a fire to get the heaters warm we have a back boiler , would it be easier if I added pictures

Back boiler is only for heating house rads and water.

Taps sinks and toilet are on a different system i would think.

Dont think photos might be of use, only thing to try is cold bath tap on and hot tap on assuming its a mixer tap to see if hot feed might do something.

Do you know it toilet and sink are mains fed or possibly tank fed?

And everything worked fine since that up until very recently . ?
You mentioned two pipes leading out of the attic tank . GENERALLY one of them would go to feed the hot water system via the immersion and the other would supply cold water to toilets , wash hand basins etc . I still think that the pipe outlet to the cold system is blocked by something .
By the way im not a plumber so pardon me if im making assumptions here

Sounds like a blockage in the pipe which might be stopping the copper cylinder to refill also, if immersion is on and no water to heat wonder what might happen. Think you might need a plumber to see if he can clear the blockage.

Last thing to try open the bath taps as pipes are bigger and see if it clears it.
