    Hi,

My existing standpipe doesn't have a trap, but interestingly the kitchen sink has.

But, the kitchen/appliance drain doesn't mix with sewers/toilet directly. Please see the photo.

Would I still need a trap?

The trap is to stop smells and wind comeing back in to the house, it's good practice, but not critical in your case.

Would elevated washing machine / dishwasher drain pipe, higher above stand pipe level at some point do the same job?

    Basically using this?

No. That doesn’t seal to the waste pipe.

An open standpipe , with natural stack ventilation in the house will be a 24/7/365 source of cold air into the house

I have multiple vent holes on each wall, source of cold freezing air in winter lol
I guess the pipe is the smallest of the holes around
