    Hi,
Im thinking of buying one second hand 2014/2015 model but have heard mixed reports on them.

    How do people find them?

Are the basic maintenance costs on parts and repairs for them expensive compared to say a Volkswagen or Opel ?
    Thanks.

Electrics and break pad parts were mentioned.

Volkswagen, Ford or Skoda are car makes that often seem to crop up for a recommendation, Just wondering why not Renault as I see enough of them on the road. Maybe Im not asking the right people :D

I like the look of the Clio and they seem to have plenty of space just looking for some pros and cons before deciding.

Wife had 2015 1.2 petrol one for 4 years, dynamique model so was fairly well equipped.

Reliable motor, Tyre pressure sensors was my only gripe with the car, its’s only downfall was the sheer lack of any power and space inside.

It’s a fine city/town car but it’s gutless on a motorway or god help if you need to overtake anything.
Ended up trading it in for a 2017 Megane,
Leagues ahead in terms of space and the 1.5 dci engine is well capable.

Renault had a poor run with cars like the Megane 2 and Laguna 2 in the 2000s. Especially electrics. But I don't think the Clio was ever too unreliable and Renault seemed to have improved in general since 2010.

That’s a very general statement ref electrics, often when people slag Renault’s but don’t hade any specific information they’ll say electrics, so I take that sort of advice with a grain of salt.

The Clio has consistently been a good car IMO.
I would say that VW Polo or Skoda Fabia would be more likely to give electric trouble than a Clio. We have a few Polo 9R in the family and they’re far from bulletproof.

The Clio has consistently been a good car IMO, I’d have no hesitation buying one.

Specifics werent mentioned but one person I spoke with said has been much happier since he switched from Renault to Volkswagen.

Im not knocking Renault as I am interested in buying one but just wanted to hear peoples experiences with them.

I've had a Top Spec Clio from new and never a bother with it. It has the newer .9 Tce Turbo engine so much improved over the 1.1 / 1.2 and cheaper to run too. 270 vs 190 tax. I use mine on the motorway and easily gets 45 to 50mpg..

The thing with Renault is that the top spec models are packed with extras / equipment compared to their rivals. Many Clios start their life as rental cars, these Clios are usually low to mid spec and seen every pothole in Ireland, yet are proven to be reliable as the rental companies wouldn't keep buying them. The Clio is also a roomier car than its rivals as it's wider and a bit longer. I've not had any issue with electronics or mechanical and routine servicing is affordable. Only issue with mine were the lacquer peel on the 17" alloys which Renault eventually paid to refurb.

I'm moving to electric, so mine is up for sale
