It's just policy as none of us know who is making the recommendation or the opposite.

    Don't buy aluminum windows
    Buy tripple pane windows
You might have to import them from germany or Sweden

Make the case for non alu?
Thermally broken Alu windows have a much neater form than the bulky PVC
    They are also fully recyclable
re importing, what about the balance of payments impact, the embedded carbon of transport and zero local support

Completely agree, the clean, sharp lines achieved by aluminium are a thing of beauty especially if done in frame or frame less in modern style windows on a modern design. Aluminium can support much larger windows. Downside of aluminium is that it's powder coated to achieve a colour. Eventually that will have to be refreshed sometime.

Pvc will achieve better u value than aluminium windows, they are 1/3rd the price in my experience. Also if replacing classic thick timber frame or building in that mock Georgian or classic style, pvc is a good substitute. Colour won't fade, but very limited number of colours available. Pvc supports relatively small windows, generally fine for domestic setting though.

I'd agree aluminium looks great. But there's a right place for PVC too.
