Been looking for a cup for ages. Would it be considered essential travel to drive from Donegal to Galway to pick it up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

wonder would he throw in a saucer for free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,273 ✭✭✭twowheelsonly

That's a bargain for a cup with an 'easy grip handle'

I have to say - I have never understood some of the crap that people try to sell on Donedeal/Adverts.

I could understand if it was some rare/collectible cup. Or if the seller was selling a large volume of them. But a single bog standard normal cup? You could buy the equivalent brand new for the same price (or cheaper) in a wide variety of shops. Why would you buy a second hand one that has to be shipped or collected from a specific location? Is it really worth the seller's time and effort for just €2?

Sad times we are living when someone has to sell cups to make ends meat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,589 ✭✭✭touts

This is peak "drop shipping". Buy cheap crap and sell it slightly less cheaply.

they do seem to sell a lot of cups and mugs.

It has an easy grip handle.

As opposed to to those difficult, slippy handles all the other mugs on the market have that we've been using for centuries.

I love how the ad has 5 different photos of the cup from different angles :)

    "Email for more details" :pac:

They all have easy grip handles.
So much better than other sellers with handles on inside of cup.

Typical of most DoneDeal ads, there is a huge deficit of information about the product.

Didn't include a picture of the bottom. Is it one of those mugs with the un-glazed ring underneath?

What surface gradient (slope) will the mug tolerate (full, half full and empty)?

    What capacity is the mug?

Is the mug suitable for dishwashing?

Is the mug suitable for microwaving?

Is the mug suitable for deep freezing?

There's no sense of scale in the photos. Is this suitable for a doll, a human, or could a family of six live in it?

What weight is the handle rated for? Could I fill the mug with molten lead and safely carry it by the handle?

Is it suitable for left-handed use?

Is the opening of the mug wide enough to facilitate the dunking of a standard Digestive biscuit? Or would you you have to nibble the sides off it before dunking?

Does the mug have Bluetooth or WiFi?

No way I'd pay more than €1.99 given all the open questions.

“Well, sir, I’ll be honest with you. I need a new cup with an easy grip handle and I need it today, but I’m afraid this just isn’t what I’m looking for.”

“What do you mean? It’s a cup, isn’t it?”

“Well, it is and it isn’t…. If you understand what I mean."

And it was at this moment, so they say, that humanity divided, turning brother against brother, until the collapse of society. The man who posted the cup mug ad had no idea what events he was setting in motion.

Brings back memories. They were all the go one time. Ideally need an 80s bungalow with it and a few old copies of the RTE guide

The house I grew up in had one. It was a wedding present to the original owners, planted the 1930s. 50 foot high monster in the tiny front garden of a terraced house on the Northside of Dublin. It was a total landmark in the area - taxi drivers would use it as a waypoint for finding houses, and you’d often get people just stopping outside the house to gawk at it.

My Dad eventually got fed up with it about 8 years ago. It was blocking all the light into the front of the house, and it was encroaching on the electricity wires out on the road. So he had it cut down.

He didn’t try to sell its horrible sticky, sappy wood and hard spiky leaves on DoneDeal, though.

I understand the reference, as it comes up in Family Guy, but I've never investigated further than a quick google, which frightened me off.

EG cups are hard to come by these days. 2 Euro plus the 7 euro delivery you are still getting a bargain IMO.

Can't believe after all the interest this thread has generated, that the cup is still available! How is someone not snapping up that little bargain of the century?
