Would anyone know when the octavia came with reversing sensors/camera as standard?
    Thanks

Not even the 2021 model has the camera as standard.

If you go up the specs (think the Ambition model on the Mk3 facelift and the current model have them) you can get those extras.

Depending on the model of radio fitted, you can retrofit a camera very easily to a 2012 onwards model, lots of them have the sensors.

Have 2018 style level, face-lift Octavia. Reverse camera on it as standard, along with sensors. Very large infotainment system in dash too, that is excellent to use. But has no physical buttons... Something not everyone likes.

They try and get drivers off their phones as it doesn't make for safe driving, so what do they do? They install pretty much the same interface on the head unit so the driver has to look at it every time they want to operate it.

I find it much safer to use the touch screen in the car because you can just do one press at a time while watching the road ahead. I find that harder to do with the phone.

For redialling people or answering calls/hanging up or whatever, the wheel controls do all that anyway.

Buttons are more intuitive for sure, and I’m not a fan of all functions being moved to touch screen. Someone here posted that on some Audi in if you need to adjust the wiper interval/sensitivity you need to go through the menus.
It’s being rolled out more on premium cars, but I see this as pure cost cutting and form over function, rather than moving things forward.

Would agree, by and large, but in defence of skoda the physical steering controls are well laid out and control most key features without you having to take eyes off the road. Also climate control is via a physical dial, easy to touch navigate without looking. The large screen is very useful for reverse camera and sat nav. And it leaves dash simple and clean.
