Advice needed for GTX 3070 build

    Hey guys,

I managed to acquire a brand spanking new MSI RTX 3070 GAMING X TRIO.
Looking for some advice on a pc to build around it.

I'll be using this for the next 5 to 10 years, so i'm thinking of going a bit overkill on the specs, because this will be my workhorse pc as well as gaming. So will be doing work from home, coding and gaming as well as media stuff. Any suggestions on which parts to use?

    I'm thinking of getting an
    • AMD Ryzen 9 (not sure which generation)
    • MSI B550-A Pro as a Mobo
    • Maybe 32 gb of ram, or DDR4, 4400mhz
    • A 1tb SSD, or two 500gb SSD's
    • An EVGA 850w Supernova platinum PSU
    • Also a 144hz or better monitor.

Also, suggestions on where to buy would be great, scan.co.uk won't deliver to Ireland, Komplett is seriously lacking in variety these days and not sure where to go in germany for parts.

You will need a little luck to get the ram running at 4000MHz, 3900MHz is generally the limit (the "infinity fabric" which links the core complexes inside the cpu is best locked at 2:1 to ram speed so in fact if you do run the ram past 4000MHz it's going to slow down the internal cpu speed). Prices are a bit horrible right now, 2*16GB carries a premium as does every step past 3200 (and you are less likely to manage to run at faster speeds with 3 sticks than 2).

I'd always say buy 1TB rather than 2*512 and using up multiple slots to make future upgrades worse. It was a little different in the days of spinning drives but for fast SSDs I wouldn't think about it myself bar extreme circumstances.

The 3900x and 5900x are much better value than the 3950x and 5950x but it depends a bit what price you can actually find. For gaming and anything needing single core performance the 5xxx are well ahead though the price premium can be vicious for now.

Amazon either in the UK or Germany are "easy" options.

I'd suggest filling in the template from https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=74542374 as best you can. Budget is obviously a big deal but everything will help people try and point you in the best direction they can.

If you're doing an overkill build, get an MSI X570 Tomahawk or Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi at the least.
Only around 220 but gets you more PCIe lanes & WiFi/Bluetooth which you might find you want in the future.

    Consider an ultrawide monitor.
