    Hi Folks,

Looking at the possibility of getting a Mondeo or Focus 1.6L of around 2008 vintage. I notice the 1.6L petrol Mondeo in particular generally seems to be reasonably priced on done deal.

Is this because it is a gas guzzler (big car for a 1.6 litre petrol engine), or is there other potential pitfalls with this particular model ?

We ran a 1.6 mondeo for 6 years with literally 0 issues !
They are heavy and sluggish but not too bad on petrol for a daily!
The hatch back is much more practical than the saloon!
Estates are like hens teeth in 1.6 petrol but very practical!

The reason they are on the cheap side is that most want diesel in that size car rather than petrol.Just make sure the 1.6 litre Mondeo was registered before 1st July 2008 otherwise it will be on the newer tax system which is alot higher than the old system.

As said the Mondeo will be a bit sluggish with the 1.6 but at the same time it will be comfortable and spacious. Try to avoid the LX spec as it’s fairly basic and go for the Zetec/Ghia/Titanium if you can.

Other options I would look at are the Mazda 6 and the Honda Civic saloon.

Mazda 6 of that vintage can be very rusty

MK 3 Laguna came with a 1.6 petrol to I think. Good car and in between both a Focus and Mondeo in size.

    Great value.

No other mark 3 but a couple of mark 2 Laguna 1.5s on Done Deal if your willing to chance it.
The only unfortunate thing about that lovely Laguna above is it is a private sale so risky too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I've a 1.6 2010 Focus, and it's great. First car mind you, so it could be a mini cooper and i'd probably still love it :P
