MacBook Air M1 Touch ID problem

I’ve just got a MacBook Air M1 and I can’t set up Touch ID, when I put my finger on the sensor it highlights the section of finger print and then disappears and doesn’t register the fingerprint. It’s always the same section of the finger that highlights too. Anyone come across this? I’m wondering if the finger print sensor…

Anyone come across this? I’m wondering if the finger print sensor is faulty or is it a software issue, I’m running Big Sur.
