First time gaming PC

    Hi lads, I’m looking at buying my first gaming PC. Just looking for advice on what to get.

    1. What is your budget? [€800-950]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/Video editing/3D Modelling/HTPC/Internet] (If gaming include which games)

    Gaming. I want to play games like GTA V with mods, EuroTruck Simulator, Cities Skylines, The sims and other simulation type games

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes/No] yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [Hard drive/DVD Drive/Case/PSU/etc.] (If possible state brand and model of the parts to ensure compatibility)

    No

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes/No]

    Yes but not essential right now

    5a. If yes, what size do you need. [19'/20'/22'/24'/etc.]

    5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] [Yes/No]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]

    No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes/No]

    No

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser]
    Either or

    9. When are you purchasing? [In x days]
    This week if I can find an appropriate build

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [South Dublin City/Cork City/Kerry/etc.]

    For this budget you won't get a decent PC for 1440p monitor. Even for 1080p would be tight. Just for a graphics card itself for 1080p you'd pay somewhere from 250- 300 Euro, while for 1440p that would be at least a hundred on top.

    I'd either look for a prebuilt PC (which would mean shorter waiting time in comparison to a custom PC, but more expensive in a long term as prebuilt PCs are often very limited to upgrade in future) or save more money and wait until at least middle of summer, hoping prices and supply would stabilise a bit (but I'm no more optimistic about it and thinking that prices will stay high more most of this year).

    You could get something for around 1K e excl. monitor though.

    CPU 3600 + GPU 1660Super for 1080p or 3060Ti (or wait for 3060 to be released and see benchmarks if it's decent for 1440p) for 1440p. GPU’s for 1440p currently are very high. 2060 may be ok with lower settings for 1440p, but I wouldn't recommend that. Better wait and see what 3060 will look like.
