i bought a XFX 5700 DD ultra from amazon , may last year.
Its magic smoke escapated so I need to RMA it.
Amazon told me where to go ( its 3 months after so they wont accept it ?? )

XFX are telling me to send it to their warehouse in NL ( I pay for delivery ) , but that they will then send it to HK ( where it will be then sent to china for fix ).

They also said I may be hit for 50-100euro import tax when they return it direct to me from HK? Is this right, surely we have some better consumer protection than this here in IRL?

    Thanks

You should push against Amazon, as a EU retailer they have to take it during the warranty period rather than send you off to the manufacturer.

Assume it was bought from Amazon UK - doesn't matter, check your invoice, you will have been billed by Amazon EU SARL which is based in Luxembourg, so still EU.

thanks for the advice - i got back onto amazon and theyve now refunded me ( or will refund me the full amount ) on receipt of the item back to their fulfilment centre.
even got a prepaid note for it, so no out of pocket...

well expect the fact that Ive no hope of getting a 5700 anytime soon - let alone one for 300EU :/

the said they couldnt do a warranty replacement as it appearently came from warehouse and they have no replacememnts to offer... which sounds fair enough i guess.
