Hi I have a Volkswagen scirocco 2009 and mostly getting people trying to swap. I don't know why at the moment someone offered me a 2010 BMW 320 for it.

Why do people only want to swap for there cars and money my way or theres ?

    Because they have no money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,704 ✭✭✭User1998

    Because they are bored also

    Because they have no money.

I'm generally of the opinion people wanting to swap cars know they've done no maintenance and want to move it on before it breaks.

The model of car can be a factor too. A Scirocco is a popular choice among youngsters aspiring to get into something a bit different than the typical Golf that a lot of them tend to drive. Same folk probably swap the likes of iphones and games consoles similarly with very little cash involved.

I have swapped cars before but only because I was bored with what I had and didn’t have a lot of cash to change on the few occasions I did it the deal worked out fine.

A 2010 320 diesel I presume is one you need to have your eyes wide open with. Do your homework on the BMW timing chain issue... a 2010 320d would be slap bang in the middle of the most affected cars.

I always flat out refuse a swap, usually seems suspect to me, but then again the chances of being offered the car you are actually wanting to change too is very rare so that's the actual reason

Thanks for the advice yeah I know cars have there known problems would BMW be that bad ? I was looking at going up the yeas more around 2015 320 or 520

Hopefully sell my car privately then buy one instead of trading it in as I wont get as much that way

Pretty much every car thats been offered to me as a swap or trade in has ended up being an insurance write off in the UK

    Hi got offered a swap a Mazda 6 2.2 diesel 132
Thinking of having a look at it my mate who is a mechanic has given me a lend of his diagnostic computer so I can hook it up to car and check if has any problems.
Had a look online seems to be selling for around the same as my car or going for less seen a few going for under 4k

Stay well away from those Mazda diesels imo. Plenty of documented problems with them.

No it won't. Not all problems show up as a computer fault code.

True but they do help after having a look over the car and under it .

Why would you want to buy a Mazda 6 to just sell it on or trade it against another car? Why not just do that with your current car?

What would you recommend between a BMW 320 & 520
    Around 2015 year

Hilarious.... You sure the mates a mechanic.....

Tell him it's a Mazda... Diesel Mazda and a 2.2 at that... If he says ok then we know ...

    Run run quite fast

But you also need to know what your looking at and no offense but it sounds like you don't. You don't seem to have done any research on those Mazda engines outside of your BIL's example. I'm sure there are a few good ones out there but there are also bad ones. Which one will you end up getting?

For space 520.... The 320 I find cramped.

Check service was done right and start it cold too.

You get some people starting the car before you show up so it will be heated

I haven't yet thought I'd ask on here first. I dont go in blind when looking at cars . Only in my 20s and not saying I know everything about cars but I have bought a good few and never have had any big problems with cars in the past . I do try do most jobs on my cars myself it's good to be able to fix your own car instead of running to a mechanic for simple jobs. Only way to learn it to do it and learn from mistakes and listen to others with more experience.

Getting this much bad feedback towards a Mazda 6 cant be good thanks for the heads up appreciate it .

Does someone want to swap you a 132 Mazda 6 for an 09 scirocco? Is there cash going their way?

I'd say that car is bollixed if so. Sounds too good to be true. I also don't get the logic of doing a swap so you can sell and move to a bmw.
