Non-european Physiotherapist without licence

Hey everyone.

So I know a non-european student here that is practicing physiotherapy on kids with Down's Syndrome, sometimes in adults. She's being practicing in the state for the last 2 years, privately. The person in question is not registered with CORU or anything so not only she's illegally practicing it but she's also not paying her taxes. What happens if someone reports her?

Physiotherapist is a designated profession in Ireland. Anybody using that title without being a member of the relevant governing body is committing an offence. a fine not exceeding €3000 or up to 6 months in prison are the penaltes.

I'm not sure it is. 'Chartered physiotherapist' requires membership of a professional body, but:

My suggestion was that the person being complained about may not actually be describing themselves as a physiotherapist.

Surely the same rules would apply irrestective to their continent of birth

It changes because, since she's a student, the rules change. Starting with the fact that she's not able to be doing full time, etc. And, if Im not mistaken, rules apply differently to students who want to pursue jobs in their fields, once their suppose to be here just for studying the English language.

She's been presenting herself as physiotherapist. I've proof of it

If you think somebody has been practising as a physiotherapist without registration, you can make a referral to CORU and they will investigate and, if appropriate, take enforcement proceedings. The complaint must be in writing. You can download a complaint form from CORU's website. CORU's website address is exactly what you would think it is.

Focus on what is relevant to CORU's functions. CORU does not care about anybody's tax status. CORU does not care about anybody's nationality, ethnicity or migration status. They care about whether they are practising physiotherapy without being registered. Stick to that.

If you want to pursue the matter of tax liablity, take it up with the Revenue Commissioners. Migration status is a matter for INIS.
