Can anyone recommend a cake shop currently open in south side or city centre for a 21st birthday cake please? I’ve emailed a few places but no reply to date. I think I have enough time to order (8 weeks), normally make my own but would like to get something more professional as it’s a special occasion. Thanks.

If you can get to them, Fitzpatricks out in Glounthaune. Very nice cakes and they do plenty of customizable as well.

I was thinking more from a specialist confectionery, I’ve used the supermarket ones like SuperValu before but looking for a professional confectioner given the special occasion and the fact that this person has missed every birthday 4 times in a row (snow, illness etc.) and now her 21st so want to make it as special as we possibly can.

Best cakes in the city at the moment are in Cameron in my opinion. Absolute gem of a place for classic french baking.
I will hopefully get my own birthday cake from them this year. Lovely for something special for a 21st, like a profilerole tower

Highly recommend an explorer mission to try some of their small cakes and decide what you like. :)

Applebee Bakes do fancy event cakes for birthdays etc., not sure where they're based but their small cakes are lovely and the birthday cakes on social media always look great. They might deliver?

Sorry, Cherry on Top in in Turner's Cross, not Douglas Street.

One more, if you want to really go high end. This Cork lady does special occasion and wedding cakes. Has been in the wedding magazines etc.

This place is dangerous. I live down the road and can’t help myself buying cakes/pastries when I walk past...so good!

Not yet, I’ve contacted a few places, some were quoting very expensive prices, others were more about the decoration than cake, I’ve 2 more places to call and will decide after that. I’ll keep ye posted. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone who gave recommendations for the cake, eventually got a girl to do it as a favour as she only does cakes part time for friends and family and it was absolutely amazing, she did all the things I asked for and the cake itself was delicious. I have to add that I was extremely disappointed with most of the companies I contacted who didn’t contact me back. I used the ‘contact us’ tab on their websites if I couldn’t get through by phone and none of them contacted me back. Having deleted all my social media accounts a few years back (and all the better for it) I can see that lots of companies don’t bother with their web pages or update them and keep referring to their social media accounts.

That looks good. What flavors inside?

Chocolate fudge sponge, 4 layers and chocolate ganache, not at all heavy.

looks great - hope ye had a lovely evening... yeah I think most companies use social media for advertisement these days.. its all about apps as oppose to websites.. Lee Rourke uses FB - thats how I contacted her.. sign of the times I guess
