Hi, I’m planning on picking up a superb 2017/2018 shortly and am wondering if anyone would have any recommendations on which of these engines to go for? Thanks

It really depends on what type of driving you'll be doing. I have the 2 litre diesel myself and I love it.

Petrol ones are rare in Ireland, my brother had to go to the UK before Xmas to get one, he wanted an Estate though.

It's all down to your type mileage and driving style. No point buying a diesel if most of your driving is in the city. Equally no point buying a petrol if your doing a lot of long motorway driving.

Driving will be a bit of a mix.
Work is around 35km motorway drive each way, I’m working from home at the moment but I’ll probably go back to doing 4 days in the office next year.

Outside of work, most journeys will be fairly short. If both cars are costing me the same, i’m a bit torn on it

The diesel is grand even if you do moderate journeys. My old 26km commute taking in a good bit of stop start driving would keep the DPF clean no problem.
I do find now though that it needs a spin once a week to keep it right.

My gut feeling would be to go diesel on a car that size.

15k commuting plus leisure use is still a bit of driving.

I'd go for the diesel too. The 1.6 is very gutless go for the 2 litre.
