Laguna II water leak into interior/drying out

My Laguna II is laid up outside and not driven. A while ago, water got into the front passenger footwell from the door soaking the carpet and whatever insulation is underneath it. I dealt with that leak but never got the car fully dry. Carpet is still damp and I can see that water is pooling in the tax disc holder on the windscreen and dripping down onto the carpet via the dashboard.

Would the wet carpet cause water to continually evaporate, condensate on the cold windscreen and drip back down or does it sound like I am getting "new water" in.

Drains under the scuttle are clear. Car doesn't have a sunroof. The heater matrix doesn't seem to be leaking, no smell of coolant in the car.

The rubber strip around the windscreen has shrunken and there is a gap but my understanding is that this strip is merely cosmetic and that a bonded windscreen should be fully water proof without it?
