Hello, I’ve four mk4 golfs all of them are 1.9L two are tdi and two are tsi. The tdi engines are not running due to high mileage but tsi ones are running great. I want to take a turbo out of tdi one and put it into tsi. Is this possible and if so how can it be done?

A little clarity is probably needed here for someone to help out with a suggestion.
In the Mk4 Golf there wasn't any TSI engines, and VW don't have any 1.9 petrol.
The Mk4 Golf had a 1.4 petrol, 1.6 petrol, 1.8Turbo petrol in the GTi and a 2 litre petrol, badged a GTI in the UK, but only 115bhp.
The Mk 5 Golf introduced the FSI engines (fuel srtatified injection). I'm not sure if the early 1.4's were FSI, but the 1.6 was FSI, and the 2 litre was FSI.
There was a 2 litre TFSI engine in the GTi, and there was a 1.4 TSI engine also.
I'm not sure if the 1.8 TFSI engine was in the Golf, it was in the likes of the A4 and Passat.
So is your petrol Golf a mk5 2 litre FSI engine, which never had a turbo? Or is it an older mk4 GTI with the 1.8T engine and you want to take out the turbo from the GTI and put in the turbo from the TDI?
    Or is it something else?

    I think he's trying to with a turbo from a 1.9tdi onto the older n/a 1.4.

    I think he's trying to with a turbo from a 1.9tdi onto the older n/a 1.4.

I was wondering if that was the case, he did say all of them are 1.9, so that led me to think that the petrols might be the 2 litre as that'll be 1996cc or something on the tax disk.
Either way, it's not something that will work no matter how you crunch it.

Might mean SDI rather than TSI

Would be best to get a 2nd hand tdi engine and fit it.
Its not impossible to do what you want to do, but it will be expensive and labour intensive.

You might bolt a turbo and associated intercooler and piping on an SDI easily enough but fitting VNT control would be difficult not to mention fairly pointless.

You say the TDIs are running poor due the high mileage, whats your diagnosis there? Worn cams? Youd be best off fixing the TDIs rather than trying to frankenstein stuff imo.
