I don't understand the issue. Can you open other doors on car? Can you open troublesome door from inside?

If all doors are locked and remote unlock does not work then have you an over-ride key to unlock driver door or boot?

What car make model and year and does it have central locking and do you have spare key/remote?

Passat b6 estate..2009...cant open rear door only on driver side. Remote working perfect ..child lock is engaged so cant open from inside....the latch seems to be disconnected from the handle outside... Therefore the door are shut and locking and unlocking the car has no effect

Sorryfor not being clear...i wonder how cani get it open to adress the issue.

I wonder can i do it somehow...i mean open it? Can the door panel be removed and door opened while the doors are closed...? I mean is it possible to do it from inside?

Did anyone faced same issue? On youtube or web theyre is not much help at all...apart of using angle grinder....

I had the same issue with an Audi A4 b8 which was a 09 reg. The problem was the door handle cable. Dont know how to fix as i dont think you'll be able to open from inside with child lock and not being able to open from the outside

    How did you fix it?

I am thinking to try to remove the panel from inside and gain access to the lock?

Mine was the opposite as the cable went while door was open so the latch was out and I couldn't close the door, brought it to a garage and they replaced the cable think it cost €30 all in it's a quick job, if they can access the door panel and remove it with door closed then shouldn't be a problem if that's the issue, I believe it is as these two cars use a lot of the same parts. I just typed in Passat B6 door handle cable and a listing on ebay came up for €13.70

I would forget about it then for an 11 year old car, unless you carry passengers quite a lot I'm sure people wouldn't mind just entering the back from the other side

Oh no I just mean if its going to cost a lot more than usual to fix for labour costs to work around the door being locked. Its your decision at the end of the day I mean no disrespect, I'm not sure if it would? Nct is crazy I dont see how a rear passenger door not opening goes against a cars road worthiness

    Safety.
    Page 36
Major defects (MaD); defects that may prejudice the safety of the vehicle, have an impact on the environment, put other road users at risk or other more significant non-compliances.
Think of escape/remove of passenger from car in event of accident/fire.

Mr Mrs had the same with a 08 VW Golf on the passenger door. The locks failed, so we removed the doorcard internally with a small bit of bend damage and once off we could get into the lock to remove and replace. It was a pain but we got a local lad to sort it in the end and it didnt cost much to get done as we supplied the new door lock.

Did you have to remove the window in order to gain access to the lock?

No I didnt. I couldnt get fully into the lock myself because there was an anti-theft cover over it and it was late at night in the dark so I gave up as I had already sorted the mechanic to do it.

    From a Uk Passat website...
“See if you can get yourself a small rubber mallet (like the one the camping shops sell for putting tent pegs in) wrap it in a couple of towels and gently "bump" the area around the door handle top and bottom a few times. Try doing it while pulling the handle also - I just had to do this on a work colleagues car - he thought i was going to smash up his car. Trust me it does work (but obviously you do “
    No idea if this works

    Also suggested;

I had success by holding the handle open then locking and unlocking the doors on the remote a few times until the door opened when this happened to me.

Tried it....smashing the door....near lock...near handle...pulling handle at the same time...even unlocking car (2 people) will get onto it next week and remove panel from inside (probably destroy it) and try to open the door.

    Also from Passat uk forum:

“ I'm back in the room. Hi all, I tried the suggested fixes this morning to no avail. I decided to remove the door card in whatever way necessary. This is how I did it & should anyone use this method, they do so at their own risk. I started with the methodical approach (rather than go straight into full on silverback) by locating & unscrewing the T20 that holds the door card at the bottom edge. I then took a long flat blade screw driver (amateur... I know), wound a couple of layers of insulating tape around the blade & with a towel between the B pillar and the screwdriver shaft, I prized/popped the door card of its mounts at the hinge-side edge. The bottom & opening edges were a calculated force, fingertip affair. From there I slid the doorcard up to release the top edge, unclipped the window switch & unhooked the inside handle cable. After all that I didn't do too much damage to the fastening points.
I made a tool to turn the child lock mech/switch using a 100mm long, 15mm wide x 5mm thick glazing packer. I cut it into a long "L" shape so that the long edge is 100mm long x 5MM wide and the return is 12mm long x 3mm wide. Have tried to upload a pic but photo file is too big. Anyway, sliding the tool between the rubber gasket & the door at the opening edge, I managed to locate it into the child lock mech, gave it a turn and wayhey... if bob didn't have a schlong he'd be my auntie (WELL CHUFFED)!
Should any one want a pic of the tool, PM me your Email address & mention "childlock tool".
I know I still need replace the Bowden cable... or whatever else it could be but this is progress!
    Thanks again all.”

Will try this..another one was suggesting to drill hole in order to locate child lock and turn it off....... Will compare with working door and see... Monday is the day when i am off.... Already got replacement lock from used car with all cables...so if anything broke i can replace it if needed.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

If you knew the mechanism layout, you might be able to use a Slim Jim to actuate it (from outside or inside). You could make one from a steel ruler.

Not sure if slim jims are illegal here, they are in the US afaik.

    Update:

For anyone wondering.... I opened the door... How?

Removed rear bottom seat. Removed trims around door - then you have easy access to all screws holding door panel - just pull.... Removed door trim - then removed rubber seal on the door frame just pull it off... Then you have full access to child lock. Turned child lock with screw driver

    Result doors open

0 damage done....25 min work if you watched hours of yiutube videos like me...

Door open...have second hand lock and off to garage to get it done now...

Thanks all....if anyone have q about how to post here...

    Thanks again

    Its done...

30e second hand lock... 35 euro garage to remove and replace the whole lock under condition that doors are open... So 65 total...not that bad

I'm about to do the same job in my polo, ordered a new lock off eBay for 20 quid and it's arrived. The door wouldn't open even with the bangs near the lock that usually will open them.

I have the inside door card removed, needed a crowbar. There's literally no other way to get it off without the door open but it's actually grand, a few scratches.

To get the lock out now with the door closed you either beat the thing out with a hammer and chisel or you can drill a little hole in the door from the inside and get the lock out.

I might take some pics and do a guide for here. It's a common fault on all VAG cars

    2 different things. completely independent

    1. Yours called dead lock- when the lock electornic internals gave up and lock become dead locked- brutal force needed. Happens on cars mostly pre 2005 models... On skoda fabia...vw polo, golf etc.

2.Mine is handle malfunction.... Door can be operated from inside without hassle..but damage is causing the doornot working only from outside as the handle unlocking wire is gone.... This happens even on audi..2008 onwards...easy fix. If the linkage damaged only its 15euro...

Jus saying....i hope you get sortex.

Hi all, first time poster but long time reader of the forum here. I recently replaced the passenger door actuator on my b6 passat, and it is opening and closing perfectly. However, it is not locking at all, with the central locking/drivers door switch or manually with the key taken out of the fob. Just wondering if any of you would have any nuggets of wisdom as to why this may be? Thanks in advance 😎
