Serious back pain

My wife had a small prolapse disc (L4-5) between 2015- 2018 including 3 nerve block injections which helped. She’s been ok until 4 weeks ago when she started getting pain in the area again.
The wife had a phone conversation with her gp 3 weeks ago & she prescribed lyrica, physio & that she would refer her back to St Vincent’s orthopaedic dept which is where she was treated before.

Pain is steadily worsening and she’s in bits, nothing is helping, she can’t sit down, lie down or stand up for very long & is constantly on the move day & night.

St Vincent’s have told her via phone today that her previous consultant had left, not been replaced & there’s nobody on the team currently taking care of patients with back issues.

Wife rang the gp to make them aware of that & asked if she could be referred somewhere else, the receptionist said she’s passing on the message.

Where do we go from here? I hate seeing my wonderful, hard working wife in so much pain.

    Any advice gratefully received.
    Thank you
    Jasper

Its a tough one. You may see my previous posts, had 2 microdiskectomies at l4/5 and a fusion with fabulous results. Is going privately an option for you ? I had my treatment in Santry sports clinic.

Have you thought about acupuncture, I didn't until recently an I'm in my 60s . Guy on main street dunlaoire did a good job on my Knee/Hip. Well worth €60.00. I had attended a hospital before going to this guy. Derek

Yes she did have accupuncture when she had the problem before but the pain only subsided for the rest of that specific day, no long term relief from it.... so she doesn't think it's worth trying this time.

The gp has referred her to Affidea for an MRI in the next week & is also going to send another referral to a different hospital.

No I haven't seen your previous posts but I will go & read them. I'm delighted that the treatment worked so well for you.

The gp suggested seeing a consultant privately but I don't know if we can afford that, can you pm me the cost & who you were seen by, if you're happy to share that info. I understand if you don't want to.
