Buying online after brexit

What sites are good these days (without paying double VAT)?

Looking for a half decent dev laptop, 15 inch. Kind of lost since I haven’t bought one in a decade or so and now with brexit it makes it more confusing.


Also - is there anywhere good to buy ex work machines?

In the UK Amazon basically at the moment.

maybe other UK sites like box.co.uk will bother serving Ireland by sorting out the VAT and customs process at some point but not at the moment

Is this a much worse cpu? Memory is 512gb and only an extra £10 or so.

the 4500u is a lot better

definitely don't pay more than the 4500u cost for an inferior machine

btw the 4500u model doesn't last too long in stock at that price

you can swap the ssd drive down the line or use an external drive, cloud storage, don't store lots of large video media on the pc etc

Ahhhhh decisions decisions.

Will be used as a developer machine so images, videos etc aren’t really needed. Saying that some projects can take up a chunk of space.

Speed is the main thing I guess with development

Been probably asked a million times. But if I order of Amazon UK and it includes import fees deposit then is that the total amount I'll pay give or take a few quid or will I be hit again over here.

Eg I'm seeing about 600 sterling for that laptop including 104 import fees deposit and 6 quid postage (would probably switch back to prime).

yes Amazon are compliant.

they were already paying VAT to Ireland pre-Brexit on stuff being sent here (except for redirects) and have their processes sorted to deal with the new requirements.

I'm looking to buy a Laptop from Amazon.co.uk that's over €150, but when I go to pay there's no mention of any import fee deposit and the price is the same after I add it to my basket and enter an Irish delivery address. Is it safe to say I won't get hit with any additional Brexit related import duties or VAT?

I'm looking at a £200 Chromebook, and there doesn't seem to be any import fee deposit, but if I put a more expensive £700 laptop in my basket, that does have an import fee deposit. So if I buy the £200 Chromebook could I still be hit with import duties or VAT?

amazon should be fully compliant

I do miss the touch screen but it's a small thing.

I think if you order via prime that info disappears or maybe if you're ordering from an amazon seller and not fulfilled by amazon. Best to ask them to be honest. Let me know

you could have used parcel motel etc before but now you'd pay double VAT

only option is to try I would say is to get onto their webchat and see if they can do anything for you

they are all being shipped from China mostly these days in any case

but of course you have to take into account that just because you see a price for another country for a laptop that it should be the same here

e.g. post-sale support costs can be different for different countries due to scale as well as the obvious VAT differences etc
