On the topic of charging can I still use the old charger and lightening cables ?
Will it affect the battery in any way?
With usbc I’ve a 3rd party plug that’s 18w should it be ok?

You can still use the old charger. It'll just charge slower than the official Apple one. Charging management and optimisation is done by the phone.

    From Apple:
To charge your new iPhone, you can continue to use your USB‑A to Lightning cable. Or you can take advantage of fast charging with the USB‑C to Lightning cable now included in the box, which works with existing USB‑C power adapters and computer ports.

Cool, good to know. Just want to maximise the battery for long as possible and avoid scenarios that might affect it.

    Cheers
