For the turnabout in the driving test, are you allowed to dry steer?

I have a test in a week, and I got a new instructor to practice with in the lead up to the test due to time constraints.

The previous instructor had me locking the wheel before the car was moving, whereas the new instructor has me turning whilst I am moving and I am not very used to it as I’ve been dry steering up until this point.

The previous instructor said it’s ok to drive steer in driving tests nowadays and you won’t be marked for it. Whereas the new instructor actually shouted at me for doing it.

    Who is correct?

    1) your instructor shouldn’t have shouted at you.

    2) it’s permitted in the test but it’s not considered “best practice”

    3) in an ADI Check Test, if point 2 wasn’t pointed out to the pupil by the ADI the ADI could be penalised.

    4) there are certain situations where I might suggest it. eg a tight road. Actively steer whilst moving on Stage 1 and 2 then dry steer before moving on Stage 3 to try and complete it in those 3 moves. Principle being why complete something in 5 steps when it could be possible in 3

You can dry Streer in the test
The reason driving instructors don't like teaching it is because it's bad for their tyres if they have a load of students doing it multiple times a day
