Unfortunately its probably highly unlikely but if it did happen who do you think would take over and would they modernise Russia?

    Peace and long life.

I am sure his replacement is already being prepared. He is just a face to it all and will be replaced by a similar figure.

He's to big to fail and has to much lose by letting go, once he goes Russia will be in turmoil.

He's eventually going to fall either someone's hand or natural karma he supposedly has Parkinson's,
Russia won't modernise after he's gone , who ever takes his place could try to ease international tensions, and pull out of Ukraine and Georgia and else where or try to double down and follow Putin's gangster lead.

    He's a terrorist ,killer and a pedophile

    Ah now, that's not true.

He prefers to poison you, drop you from a high window, or arrange an accident.

Mikhail Mishustin Is the Prime Minister as of 13 days ago, he would take the reigns as acting President until such time as an election can be organized. The provision for that I’m reading is set in the Russian constitution.

I'd say being 67 and the shape he is in, Putin has at least 10 years in him if not more, considering that even Yeltsin lived till 76 and this is taking into account his alcohol-infused lifestyle.
His real replacement could still be working in the FSB considering his political career was less than 10 years long when he replaced Yeltsin.
