Installing battery

I just installed a new battery on the missus car. All went well I just have a question about batteries in general if anyone has knowledge on the matter. The battery I installed was an 054 battery. That's what was in the car. But there were sites that said this doesn't fit the car and you need an 055 battery. The only difference I can see with an 054 and 055 is the position of the positive and negative terminals are swapped. Would the 055 battery fit also if I just turned it around so the positive and negative terminals were near the correct cables for each.

Most cables aren't flexible enough to do that safely, it can put the battery commections under a lot of strain and they are not designed to be stressed like that.
Batteries hold a lot of energy and a faulty connection can lead to fire and short circuits.
It may be possible in some cases but generally they are designed for a specific terminal layout.

Okay so it's only the 054 that can be fitted. Manufacturer must have made an error so for what part fits on the parts sites you enter your reg into

Parts sites don't always give the correct fitment, sometimes there are changes during a model cycle and things change.
Its always best to eyeball the part before ordering it if possible to avoid problems like this.
Is the 055 fitment for a LHD car by any chance?

Any info on old battery and a photo also helps.
What way is battery secured at leg on bottom or bar across the top.
Height and width need to be correct and sometimes longer batteries can be fitted.

Nothing is simple with cars as multiple choices can be there.

Possibly, it would make sense If the battery was on the opposite side for a left hand drive car? Yeah I took measurements of the battery in the car beforehand so I was sure the 054 one would fit

I installed the battery fine took measurements and checked that the new one was the same voltage. My question was just about the difference between an 054 and 055 as they seem to be identical except for the position of the terminals

Yes left and right hand terminals with battery facing you.might also be was it English/French/Japanese built just to be different.

Those registration lookup to tell you the part you need are often wrong. As said they often don't have full access to manufacturer configuration like main dealers have. I have received all sorts of wrong parts based on registration such as oil filters, air filters. Now I try to physically remove the part and bring it into the shop. I also keep a note of correct filters for next time. There are dozens of different battery shapes and connection positions and types, and even internal chemicals more suited to stop start. On some cars you need to tell car a new battery is fitted so car will charge it correctly.

Often manufacturers suddenly switch parts mid production run for various reasons such as availability, cost, changes to engines etc. The registration lookup does not seem to get full data from production line.

Apologies in advance but I'm delighted they were the same voltage.

Had to make sure they didn't send me a 24v battery for a 1.0L city car you never know 😉

Only difference is location of the poles. If leads fit without being under strain then ok but I would be more worried about bonnet clearance. If poles on the 055 were closer to the front of the car then you could risk shorting them out when closing the bonnet!!

Thanks for the answer. Yeah the 055 would position the battery the other way around and the terminals facing closer to the front bumper.
