DSP says 234 Casual days on JSB used up, I don't see how, I only see 180...

Wonder if someone can help me out here...

I'm a casual worker on JSB, at €40.60 per day.

    In 2019 I received €2,639 / €40.6 = 65 days. DSP says 85 days when I ring.

I started a new claim in 2020 and it has just been 'ended' on January 16th 2021

    So, 2020 to 2021, I've received 4222.40 (2020) + 446.60 (2021) = €4669 / 40.6 = 115 days

    My calculations put me on 65 + 115 = 180 days.

I've spoken to DSP, and they said that my entitlement has always been 234 days, but it is used up! They have the same figures as me for amounts received, so that matches. I cannot see how they've got me down as 234 days used. They just said I'm calculating it wrong. and, I can't exactly go in there to show my figures and ask them to explain to me what the difference is. Only reception is open, not the hatches, due to covid

Also, I've no other claim, the last time I was on JSB was in 2002.

Where are they getting 234 used days from?! I had been full time working for 6 years prior to 2019, so 234 days was the correct entitlement. Anyway, 180 days isn't a cut off amount anyway as they are 156, and 234. (312 doesn't apply after 2013)

They are counting days that you don’t receive a payment as well. Jsb is a weekly payment not daily. There are 6 working days in a week not five if you are being assessed as a part time worker. See the link below for how to calculate it. You most likely are calculating it wrong unless you are on systematic short term work.

That doesn't make sense to me what you say about 7 days.

    The weekly rate IS €203.

As a casual worker, if I only work say 2 days of the 'week', I get JSB for the other 3 of 121.80, ie 40.6 x 3.

    40.6 x 5 = 203 IE they're using 5 days as the divisor.

If if was based over 7 days, then the daily casual rate would be 203/7=29

Therefore using the same example as above, worked 2 days, then paid for the remaining 5 at 29 per day, then I would have received 5 x 29 = 145.

203/5 is the only way this adds up....

No if you work 2 days one week your jsb covers 4 days. It is explained in the link. Read to the very bottom.

The number of days is not calculated the same way as the rate of pay. They are completely seperate calculations for part time workers.

    I understand now, thanks.
