Dealing with eczema

    Hi All

Im hoping to get some advice /tips, things you found good , things that were bad with long term skin condition, namely eczema.

I wont go in to the full back story but i have had quite bad and untreated eczema for some time however have recently engaged my gp as it was very bad and widespread itchy and weeping when scratched leading to infection.

Just recently I was prescribed oral steroid , topical steroid ointment and antibiotics. These did a great job of suppressing the rash. The gp requested a follow up when this course had finished however at the end of the course (almost to the day) I learn im a close contact for covid so i was isolating, during this thing (not unsurprisingly) the rash started to take hold again, not anywhere near the degree prior to visiting the doctor but in time it would have got worse if unchecked. On the follow-up he mentioned that the eczema can be eradicated but it was a matter of managing it and proceeded to give me the same script again . I asked if he thought a dermatologist would assist and he will refer me after going back to have some bloods done

This me thinking if this is here to stay i would rather understand some managment techniques as i have a feeling that the doctors solution it to medicate with steroids and anti biotics.

Are there any of you who have lived with this kind of thing? What did you find helpful to stay on top of it? I did have it as a teenager and it did abate for about 15 years so i wonder if that is possible again, being honest I was a little deflated learning that there is no getting rid of it as its a nightmare at times

    Thanks

I hope you have made some progress with the condition OP. Have you tried E45 cream? I think it's important to keep the affected area well moisturised.

I have the same problem except it is in my ear canals. I've never had any treatment for it except topical antibiotics. My GP seems very laissez-faire.

I spray olive oil into my ears to help keep the skin moisturised, but it doesn't really help much.

My ears feel blocked because of the swelling and a lot of the time, I can't hear properly. Incredibly itchy and sore :(
