Shed / Log cabin and available wood treatments

I have a log cabin where the supplier advises Sikkens (it arrived earlier than anticipated too). So would be looking at the Sikkens Rubbol Primer Plus and Satura Plus combo. Alas, it doesn't look like you can buy the primer anywhere in the country (searching online at least). Looking to Amazon.de, the only seller is UK based. Not sure about ordering from the UK at the moment.
From reading around here I think I could also go down the Cetol HLS and Filter 7 path but stock of that here doesn't seem great either! Certainly hard to find the same colour combination of the two at least.
I'm now wondering if I should be looking at other treatment choices (e.g from Owatrol) - the material is planed smooth spruce. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated

Used to hate some of the older Sikkens stuff, preparation was a real bore. Maybe they have changed? Does look like the new product range is much better.

I would suggest you take a very long term look at what product you use. Think in terms of how long a coating will last, how long it takes to coat and most importantly how long it will take to prepare the surface to do a good job.

I went over to Owtrol which isn't perfect and doesn't last that long in our exposed location however preparation is easy (use netrol) and it doesn't take very long to get a coat of it on a large area.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Give Igoe Paints a shout or call in if possible. Agents for Owatrol and seem to specialise in timber treatment.

Agree with this. Very knowledgeable and helpful. They also have a great useful tips document on their website which is well worth keeping on hand.

One point they did make was that treated wood is treated for rot, not to protect from UV or rain. So last year I treated by seasoned outdoor workbench with textrol. Difficult to work with but it’s holding up pretty well so far. And I painted my wooden fence with acrylic exterior masonry paint and E-B. All working great so far. No cracking and I’m delighted with it.

I have used the Sikkens Filter 7 and HLS on external wooden windows and am very happy with its performance.
I can buy it locally in Cork but here is a link to a supplier in NI that carries Rubbol
