    thanks tabby,
    was just worried it might be a box for an expansion tank or something. My system is open vented so hopefully this boiler will work so. I wonder why these boilers have such a box when others don,t? Or what is the advantage in a box like this?

    I'm not a plumber, but I think that box may be an aftermarket control unit, had a similar boiler here and the control unit panel had, a thermostat dial, a 24 hour timer and on/off switch
