What would become of the hardline nationalist parties who claim to want a 32 county socialist republic if there was to be a UI ?

Do unionist/loyalist understand that the vast majority of the south don't behave in the combative manner that their counterparts up north do and would just want to get in with life?

They would spend a few months partying in the pub (if they're open again at that stage) and then they'll have to pick up another agenda in order to gain votes. Hopefully they'll choose a good one so their appeal to voters won't wane once they've achieved their goal

    They would still exist.

I mean we still have strong support for confederate in the US nearly two centuries later.

Nothern Ireland is an economic, social and political black hole that was created by the British.

Would any sane Irish government want to take that from them?

Surely they would just continue and campaign for socialism?

Isn't their slogan these days "Brits out, everybody else in!"? Maybe they'd just continue in that direction...

A lot of unionists think the earth is a few thousand years old.

What people down here think, I'd say, is well beyond their comprehension.

SF seems to morph into something else red/green so they would still be around.

The end goal of SF and the other nationalist parties isn't to just join the 6 counties to the 26, have a big party, and then get on with life. They don't recognise the legitimacy of the 26 counties either. They want to disband both, and create a new 32 country republic with a new constitution, a new army, and a new police force. They also want this new 32 county socialist republic to leave the EU.

We wouldn't just be taking it from them - we (and they) would be creating something entirely new. Which begs the question - would any sane person from the north (regardless of their political persuasion) want to make those sacrifices?

Probably not. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

They could set up an online shop selling Che Guevara t-shirts and posters.
