Any one got any experience or ideas of indoor/outdoor space? We'd like to do something on the patio, either a pergola or some veranda over a part of it. Probably the half accessible from the dining area on the attached. Our understanding is we wouldn't need planning? Also any one any experience or an outdoor fireplace in one of the corners (rather than a chimnea)? Any thoughts or experience welcome!

See exemptions attached, search for canopy/awning.

In terms of chimney, How close are your neighbours?

Be a one off in the countryside so c. 200m til another building at least. Cheers for the exempted development link, confirms it falls within it. Something I was curious about was a recent planning notice around here listed a pergola as part of the works. Hasn't been submitted yet so I was surprised to see them include it.

I have an outdoor stove and a steel barrel thing.

The stove works better due to the fact that a chimney sucks the smoke above head height.

The barrel is smoky, as is every outdoor open fire I've experienced. Lung cancer risk really takes the edge off the appeal of open fires.

Obvs to get much benefit from any outdoor heat source you need a lot of shelter.

Just remember that this pergola will reduce any future exemption extensions you can carry out. That’s the reason it was included in the other PP as you mention.
