520 from main dealers

I'm in the process of buying a 520D from a main dealer(my first BMW). Going with a main dealer for the 2 year warranty.
Have looked at a couple of 2017 models which I've agreed prices on from two different dealers, one close by and one on there other side of the city.

Am I correct in thinking that the warranty is valid with any main dealer, not just the one you bought the car from? Also once serviced at any main dealer warranty is still valid?

Theres not a lot between the two cars and the one on the other side of the city is maybe a slightly better deal.

If I had to return to the dealer for service or if there was an issue when under warranty it would be doable but something I'd prefer not to have to do.

If it's a BMW approved used car warranty then it's valid at any main dealer. You are also not tied to any one main dealer for servicing, it can be serviced at any main dealer.

You can also book a service through www.bmwservice.ie and if you sign up to www.bmw-first.ie then you can get 10% off even with the basic package with the first month free. Tip: Sign up just before it's due a service to avail of the discount and then cancel if you like before the month's trial is up.

Great stuff thanks. Had no idea about the discount either so will use that when it's due it's first service.

Actually makes my choice of car a bit harder now but a good problem to have.

Also find out if the cars still have a service pack on them. The service pack is usually bought when they are brand new and is good up to 5 years or 100,000km afaik. If you put the reg and mileage into www.bmwservice.ie it will tell you if it has a service pack on it.

Thanks. Neither seem to have a service pack with them as it's just giving a menu of options to get done with prices.
Both cars well under 100,000km so neither must have had it in the first place.

Guys so I’m getting the car hopefully Friday and I’m thinking of adding on a BMW 3 year policy for protection against paint chips and dings. €319 for a 3 year policy.

Body is in great Nick so I think it might be nice piece of mind but would be interested in others opinions and whether they’ve used it.

I got that protection with my last BMW and wouldn't get it again. It only covers small chips/scratches the size of a coin - anything bigger is not covered. A cyclist scratched my bumper with a line about 10 cm long and only cost 40 quid to buff it out (didn't try and put it through insurance). I was lucky it wasn't a deep scratch.

I got protect X though and would get that again or something similar that adds a layer of protection to paint and seats.

Thanks. I think if I looked at something like protect x I’d spend a little more and get a specialist to ceramic coat it.

Did you test drive anything else out of interest against the 5 series or did you know you wanted one?

Looking at them myself, the mpg returns are very impressive for a big luxury car if the figures given are real world mpg.

Like you I’ve never had BMW, mainly VW and Audi. Considering A6/Merc E class but the BM 5 series gets all the rave reviews

Yeah I test drove a Merc E220D as well. Very nice car but preferred the BMW. Car feels more planted, seats(if they are the sports seats) are amazingly comfortable.

This will be my first BMW too, coming from a CC. I think a 5 series was always my preference unless the Merc absolutely wowed me.

Best of luck with your search. A lot of dealers wont let you test drive during the current climate.

Damn, just bought a 430i from a main dealer, I asked if the paint protection insurance would cover the damage on my old car (which I had previously shown him as a potential trade in). My old paint had two very deep cuts (down to the metal), and were both about 20cm long. He said the insurance would have covered that no problem, so I bought it.

Hopefully they don't argue to hell and back if I ever need to claim!

Best of luck with it, great cars, had 2 before moving on to my current motor an S90 R Design, very happy with it, pros and cons with the 5 series, people talk about the 5 series being a much better drivers car, I find these days, maybes its age, or all of the speed vans and the like that the ability to be able to use one of these cars as a "drivers car" get less and less so more focused on looks, features, comfort and resale value and brand too I suppose. R Design in performance mode gives me a grin the 4 times a year I decide to press the button :)
