Looking about a 211 ST Line diesel (should be a stock car); so many Ford dealers so who or which would be a good starting point for a nice skinny deal. I do have a mint non Ford trade in they might retail (dealer dependent of course)

At end of Nov, Ford were giving nearly 3k off the new focus (this seemed to be from Ford and not the dealer). None of the dealers I rang at end of Nov have phoned me since so either they are tipping away at Jan volume okay or just cba:)

Contacted Ford dealer also re fiesta for my dad last summer.... said he’d get back. Never did! Also visited a Ford dealer about a possible Focus last year. Seemed extremely uninterested.

Have had deals from VW, Seat, Opel all Calle me back looking for my business before giving them a cent so simple things like not getting back to someone is the difference between me giving them business or not!

It’s part of any good salespersons remit to convert any qualified prospects.
To be fair though, the ones ringing 20 dealers looking for the best price probably go on the bottom of the list for callbacks

Thats probably why they're not bothered ringing back especially if you have a trade in they have to value over the phone.

I took a day off and called into two Cork and one Kerry based Ford dealer looking for a Focus Estate as a straight purchase in June. The exact car I wanted they each confirmed was in stock with Ford Ireland. Despite each of them promising to get me a great deal, not one of them could give me a price on the day and I'm still waiting on a call back from any of them. Ended up buying another Octavia Combi.

I expect things will get worse with main dealers in general once they have certainty that few U.K. imports will be coming and expect that they will start limiting any discounts on offer as demand builds for them.

Ford lost a lot of market share the past few years despite a new Fiesta which was always one of Ireland’s top sellers. Not sure it’s even in the top ten now. Ford themselves have been pushed down to 5/6 in the sales charts. Just don’t seem as hungry for sales for Toyota (massive hybrid push), Hyundai with their SUV and value push

New Focus does seem a fresh desirable car right now and ST Line the spec to go for so I wouldn’t expect miracles as regards any discounts

Thanks, ford themselves seem to be offering 3k off the focus so shiels must be adding 2k discount on top of that. Might ring tomorrow suss out how good or not the deal is

Ford is a high volume brand so sweet FA dealer margin. Would probably be more variance if looking for a Suzuki etc but less distributor campaigns (i.e. scrapage etc).

You'd wonder what's going with ford these days. It's like they are asleep with a static out of touch range that seems to now focus on high powered pick ups and vans. (No pun intended)

It's just 1 suv style in a market hungry for that vehicle and it's nothing to write home about. The focus and fiesta are good but resting on their reputations and are getting staler by the day.

I can see a company heading for crisis in 5 years time.

They have the new Puma and new Kuga, with hybrid power trains, and the new Mustang EV SUV exactly what the market will buy. The Ranger is the pickup to have at the moment.
It’s probably the most in-touch Ford have been in the last 20 years.

Rang Ennis yday. 'Ah sure I'd need to see your car in person to value it' must have missed the covid memo.
Rang Galway instead. Cam back with a price that was 1k dearer than the few ford garage I had rang before Xmas. So as far as I can see the upto 5k off is a load of marketing BS

The man from the factory deals and dealers claiming to have exclusive discounts.

I can safely say I don't not want, and will never own, one of those vehicles. I'll likely replace my Mondeo with a newer one.

Slightly off topic but the Mondeo as a hatch/saloon and estate is no more, it will be replaced by this concept crossover from next year:

Obviously the production version will be a bit toned down over the concept but the overall car will be the same.

I’m not into them myself either, but the masses are. That’s why this is the last generation of Mondeo

I figured it was coming, but I was keeping my head in the sand. What do UK fleet buyers go for these days (if that's still a thing)? Mondeo and Insignia were the stereotype.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Fleet buyers will go for anything that is tax friendly as well as reasonable to lease, the BMW 330e and 530e plug in hybrids are very popular in the UK these days as fleet cars. Insignias and Passats are still sold so they obviously are popular too on lower budgets.

I'd forgotten about the Passat. The BMWs are interesting, some numbers to crunch there, but I've heard someone mention the bootspace isn't great.

Boland's in Wexford or Rathfarnham Ford.

I went with neither when I bought my new Ford back in July but these were certainly the two who gave the best price without being held over a barrel.

The sales team in Rathfarnham were very nice and honest.

Thanks for recommendation. I was trying to stick to bigger ones as thought be best for selection of colours. Rang Bolands in Dec, never rang me back. Some young sales guy who didnt instill much confidence tbh. Might ring again.

Well they have gone crossover style just very recently. New kuga is 3 years too late to the party with flame grilled batteries. Mustang looks nice but this is a 50 to 60k car so not for the masses. New mondeo looks interesting but again has a car like crossover feel. Will those styles pull people out of Tuscons and other jeep style suvs into a rounder more car like style? Ranger is great but in ireland it's very expensive and again a niche market. Interesting times ahead.

New Ford Mondeo looks like an old Hyundai Tucson from the front anyway. Hardly promising.

The dad had 3 Fords from new a Mondeo in 04 which I hated by the way, an S-Max in 07 so much better a different class of car over the Mondeo and he choose the S-Max himself the in 11 a C-Max Titanium because he did not need a car as big as the S-Max anymore and the C-Max was a great car classy and stylish but then he thought of going for a Kuga around 14 , 15 but the Ford sales people then just did not seem to care. One said he looked small in it. Talk about not trying to sell a car. My Dad by the way is in no way small. So then he said FT and went the local dealer and bought a Kia Sportage 15 brand new and is now on his third one but it could have been his 6th Ford. Long story short Ford messed up and missed out on a few sales.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
