A direct Tesla Model S rival that’s due to go on sale early next year, the basic version of the NIO ET7 starts at US$58,380,

150kWh ultra-high energy density solid-state battery pack with a range of over 1,000km and can be fast charged to 80% in 15 minutes.

Compatible with Nio’s network of ‘Power Swap’ stations, which allow owners to autonomously switch their depleted battery pack with a fully-charged one in minutes... quicker than a liquid fuel fill.

    Twin e-motors producing a combined 644hp and 849Nm of torque, 0 to 100kph takes 3.9sec.

33 “high-performance sensing units” built-in to the ET7 that together generate eight gigabytes of data per second. The ET7’s “full stack autonomous driving technology” gives a "safe and effortless point-to-point autonomous driving".

Can I get it on PCP ? Only messing...it's out of my price range, and that's before the paddy tax is added on.

    Looks very good though.

Range is impressive if the claims are correct

Is is compulsory now that every thread title for a new EV must include something along the lines of "the end of ICE"?

    It gets tiresome.

It didn't watch the video but from judging a book by it's cover it's a semi obscure Chinese brand, it's still a relatively expensive vehicle for what is a relatively obscure brand and a battery swapping network? Come on!

Nice looking car though, kinda Kia Stinger meets Hyundai Ioniq meets Tesla Model S meets VW Arteon.

Indeed. It's seem's to be the typical EV disciple's mantra these days.

Sure it would be just preaching to the choir over there which would probably defeat the purpose of placing the thread in the main forum.

and a battery swapping network? Come on!

    Taken from : https://insideevs.com/news/448165/nio-completed-1-millionth-battery-swap/

NIO announced that the cumulative number of its EV battery swap service in China - NIO Power - has reached 1 million, as of October 5, 2020.

That's two times more than in May 25, 2020, which gives us a glimpse of how quickly demand for this service grows. Since Spring, NIO also expanded the size of its battery swap network from 131 stations to 155.

Simultaneously, the cumulative mileage of all NIO EVs exceeded 1 billion km (620 million miles).

However I do agree that case for battery swapping in Ireland is hard to justify with 1000Km range and living on a small island like Ireland. For future robotaxi companies it might be reasonable.

Their share price has gone through the roof a few times. There’s a thread on the investments forum.

    Where to start.....

    1) if the tech does what it promises then it certainly moves us closer to the end of large scale ICE.

    2) that companies battery swop tech is a fully live operation - Top gear magazine did an 800 mile road trip using the battery swop stations.

    3) its hard to say how close solid state battery tech is to market but Toyota claim to be at an advanced stage with it.

    4) regardless of this car - EV charging tech IS evolving - Porsche have 800 volt batteries in the Taycan and that car can charge to 80 percent in 22 mins at 350 if charger is good enough.

    5) if battery swop were to take off then the old chestnuts off "apartments", "need to drive 1000 miles non stop" become a reduced issue.

Lets see how it all plays out shall we :)

    Just to add.....

The Porsche Taycan battery is 93 kwh or thereabouts.

So 80 percent in 22 mins is 80 percent of a large enough battery.
