    Hi All,

I just order pertol model Superb last week, but there are not many buyers interested in getting PHEV Model rather than Petrol, it confused me if i picked the right one myself.
    • The PHEV model is envionrment friendly, low cost on petrol, and less road tax, but the cost is more than 43k (Ambtion model) after all grants. It carrys two systems in the car, that makes car heavier.
    • The pertol model is about 36k (Ambition model).

i am not driving a lot, might be less than 10k a year for short trips.

In compare with pertol model 36k, there are 7k difference.if i have this car for 7 yrs, that means i could have 1k extra for pertol moeny for each year ?

and i try to figure out that if my choice is right for me or not?

    Thank you.

I have the superb phev, have it about 5 months now and its a great car,I'm averaging about 75miles per gallon. I plug it in at work and also at home..during the week I don't need to use the petrol engine much ..it gives about 28 to 30 miles on pure electric..lovely car to drive..I'm very happy with it overall.you should test drive one .

    first of all, Congratez.

That sounds great to you. as you could recharge your car at work place & home.

i work in twon, i have to park my car in shopping center for whole day. i duno if there is free charging station in there. and also i live in mid terrace town house with no designated car park space, the charing pole is impossilbe for me to have without distrubing other neighbours, but i can have charging kit on the wall. So the beniefts are not so much to me i reckon for this.

so i would like to know if there are any other beniefts to me. i am so worried of geting wrong one for myslef. as the dealer told me there are no many petrol model in Ireland at all.

    Thank you.

SUPERB iV prices start from €40,350, and the cost of paints and delivery charge is about 2k on top of that.

You shouldn’t buy a PHEV if you have nowhere to charge it. A PHEV with a dead battery will use more fuel then the equivalent petrol model

@OP It sounds like you got the fight car for yourself. Stop worrying about it and look forward to getting it. It is either that or cancel your order. Did you get any extra's? why ambition spec why not treat yourself a little bit with the mid spec car? I know Elegance used to be the top spec not sure of middle spec.

Actually never mind after looking on the Skoda website that's a fine car very well equipped. Not much more you could want or really need. You should look forward to getting it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

You can buy a brand new Toyota Camry hybrid for just over 40k too, higher standard spec than the Superb and it won't need to be plugged in if that's a challenge.

That would be a small problem for you if you can't plug in as much as you should ,being a plug in hybrid, you need to charge it up to take advantage of it..the sportline I have is well equipped (has the lot, sunroof as well)I think they tried to push these cars with full spec last year,54 grand for mine..new minus the grants(47 grand)..I think its still a bit expensive..I got a great deal on mine, have to say the superb is a great car all round..petrol or hybrid..you're case ,I'd stick with the petrol.

And I would agree with above..the extra battery weight would have a big effect on mpg..

With the low mileage I’d just buy the petrol. I was a tad worried about my Tiguan petrol but since covid doing less than 10k km per year. Charging if any sort would just be a nuisance for the amount of driving I’m doing. No way would electric or hybrid costs ever justify me changing at the moment

i used to think about Camry, but it is not the car i really like. i do like hatch back saloon style.

So for the phev you have basically paid for 7k in fuel up front with a view to saving money. Your petrol costs averaging 7l/100km on 10k a year would be 1k a year. So you paid for 7 years of fuel up front. However, bear in mind that you need to pay for power however small and some fuel from time to time. So actual payback may be nearer 8 years before you Ctually save money.

That's no issue of course as no doubt your plan is to retain for 9 years. In year 9 you are literally saving everything and you can roll in the juicy savings.

Well, that assumes no extra interest on the loan? And no extra servicing.

If it were me I would put it in sport and enjoy the combined power for the minutes you drive each week. You bought a 43k car. You don't need to save money on fuel.......

Yes..combined power of the phev is quick and fun..
