Upgraded an old laptop from HDD to SSD. Not getting full advertised read speeds.

I upgraded a HP Elitebook 8440p with this SSD from Amazon.

    Link to SSD: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07TNQXQ6N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And link to Laptop (I have the i5 version): https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c02030599

I then installed a fresh copy of Windows 10. Laptop is working fine, but I'm only getting half of the advertised read speed.

I know it says read / write speeds of "up to" 520 megabytes / second but was hoping to get at least close to it. Maybe in the 400 region.

Here's my Crystaldiskinfo results: I'm getting maximum read speeds of aroud 260 megabytes / second: https://pasteboard.co/JJIVxn0.png

Should I be getting closer to the advertised speeds? Have I messed up the installation?

I installed windows in IDE mode. Then after it was installed, I changed it to ACHI mode in the bios.

Should I have changed to ACHI mode first, then reinstalled windows?
Could it be a driver issue perhaps?

Device Manager detects the disk without any problems / yellow exclamation marks. I can see "Lexar 256gb" in the device list.

Maybe the laptop is too old? (released in 2010)

    Any advice folks?

    Thanks

You didn't do anything wrong, but your laptop has a SATA II interface, which is limited to 3Gbps, only half the speed of SATA III.
    Hence the half speed.

Problem solved in less than 5 mins. Thanks!

It's still much faster than the old HDD anyway.
