Zoom interview with department

Hi, I don't want to say which government department I have my interview with but they emailed this week and have organised a zoom meeting for next week. Has anyone had a zoom meeting with the department or civil service recently? How long do they go on for? I presume it's competency based. I get so nervous with interviews in general and I'm petrified for this one. I really would love the role and so worried I'll mess up the interview. Would nearly rather it was in person.

I have had two zoom interviews and had no issues with them. Almost prefer them because you're in your own surroundings, you've no commute etc.
Interviews are the same structure as an in-person civil service interview. Very structured, it will be clear when each competency is being assessed. They will keep an eye on time and may interrupt you to keep things on track. Best of luck!

As above, it is the exact same in person. And similar to above I found the experience much more relaxing than in person interviews. Lie with all interviews practice practice and practice is key. The great thing with zoom interviews is that they are much easier o practice for. Set up a zoom meeting with yourself and then ask yourself a question and then look at the webcam and try answer it. It will take a good bit of practice to even get comfortable doing this.

Agreed. I found myself to be much less self-conscious via Zoom from my home and the interviewers to be especially helpful in light of the novel format.

That's great that you all seem to find it easier-hope I'll be the same. have built it up in my head that I won't be able to have a natural flow with the interviewers etc as I won't be there in person.

Practice making eye contact with the camera while you are talking. That should be your focus when addressing them.

    Good luck!
