    Batteries eh? :pac:

Careful I'll start correcting yer homework.

    Traction batteries, not leisure.
A&N are antiquated spoofers pushing unreliable tech and misinformation they do good business repairing...the hardware I recommend performs orders of magnitude better and doesn't fail. They accuse batteries of killing chargers ffs, their chargers are underperforming and unreliable.

    Ah is Amp-hours there's no amp-hour per hour. That's like mph/ph.

I wouldn't recommend extracting 110Ah from a 110Ah plated battery..for one thing if it's a "leisure battery" then it's probably 100Ah, then there's the ambient temperature derating, then there's the advisable that you ought to not extract more than 80% from it after these deratings and that's assuming you charged it to 100% which is very difficult, charge termination of 85% SOC (1.265 specific gravity) would be more normal where standard chargers finish charging.

    I noticed nobody mentioned li-ion?
No need. It's a fashion, they're junk. They don't work in the cold, I've a coupla thousands worth of them in the workshop I can't charge since October because they'll get damaged if I do with an average resting temperature <5°C

Do you mean, you ought not to go below 80% charge, ie don't take out more than 20%.
Is not a common measure of a batteries capability to survive repeated charge/discharge cycles be expressed in terms of the number of charge/recharge cycles at a particular percentage Depth of Discharge.
For example, a battery might last for 500 cycles at a DoD of 20% and only 200 cycles at a DoC of 50% but only 3 cycles of taken to a CoD of 100% DoD

Interestingly Halfords advertise their premium A rated leisure battery as being good for 400 cycles but make no mention of the very relevent DoD number so from a buyers point of view it's a useless piece of information, It's like saying a car will do 4L/100km (70 MPG) without relating the figure to specific driving conditions.

It's generally all the same cost per kWh down to 80% DOD

I don't buy batteries from Halfords nor would I consider their stock A-rated.
Golf Cart 6Vs are good for 1200 cycles to 50% DOD

Not that your average user sees beyond cycle 50 no matter what the battery is...I wonder why....

Didn't say Halfords stock was A rated, I was referring to their use of the NCC's totally meaningless leisure battery guide which uses A, B & C to denote a batteries 'quality' for leisure use CLICK

Personally, I avoid so-called leisure batteries and go for deep cycle units designed for daily heavy traction use, like factory floor sweepers and cleaners, golf buggies etc. and sold by suppliers to industry. Stuff is always cheaper when buying from suppliers not retailing to the leisure market.

    Yurp, lipstick.

That's exactly like putting a third digit on the licence plates year of registration.
Anyone ever seen a testing standard for those grades? ....of course not!

    I think they're not long enough. :D

An interesting feature would be on the rise of people buying VW Caddy / Fiat Doblo type vans and unofficially converting them. There are a load around. A lot of under 25s are doing it as they can't get insured on campervans. I'm interested myself, but not sure about how insured one would be if they modify their van and/or cook in it.

Thanks Dory. I’ll do some research on that suggested topic. It’s an interesting one alright. I would imagine that you would not be insured if you’re not using it for its intended purpose.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I asked my insurance and they said there's no issue with removing the bulkhead. After that I'd only be throwing a mattress in and sleeping in it, I'd use one of the pop out drawers to cook outside. At the beaches the last few weekends there has been a lot of them.

As someone new to the idea of campers the area of insurance seems like an absolute minefield...ye may well have covered this before though? The whole thing of having to be 25 or older seems like blatant discrimination tbh!
