    Are henley blocks used in ireland? for example when splitting meter tails to add a second consumer unit

    Yes, that would be much better. This reduces the risk of one fault taking both boards out.

    If you're splitting meter tails you need a MOPD fitted before the tails

    The MOPD will have terminations to connect the tails and branch off to the car charger

    So there should be no need there

    Splitting tails and henley blocks is more of a UK thing

    I think the best option is:
    ESB meter to main distribution board.
    Main distribution board feeds sub distribution boards.

    Back of an envelope thinking re: Car charging at meter cabinet location

    Pros :Cost + convenience

    Cons : Main Isolation at main distribution board

    Consumers equipment at supply cabinet

    but there are changes a coming where you can fit a (special)board to supply a ev charge point ONLY if there is no direct access into the "main board" the nsai esb networks and seai have a preliminary agreement on the principal of this but the nsai haven't found the language to regulate it
    currently you can only things you can have in the outdoor meter cabinet are the esb meter/fuse and your main fuse unit ...............nothing else especially Henley blocks (northern contractors fall foul of this quite commonly when working in the south)

    EV CHARGER only no electric gates heat pumps fountains ;)
